Dwight Schrute Phone Message

The “Snakes on a Plane” promo tactics have become a trend. I just got a call from Dwight Schrute, Assistant Regional Manager for Dunder-Mifflin. Yes, it seems now you can spend the next day or two harassing your “friends” with calls from Dwight. You can set up a call at this website.
In anycase, of all the new premieres and continuations of old shows that have aired this season, The Office has got to be the best so far (excluding shows on the cable premium channels) - impressive considering that a lot of very good shows have started this year. I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes of The Office even more so than last season’s episodes. Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson are awesome, and I like the fact that many of the actors are also writers for the show (Toby the HR guy, Ryan, and Kelly). Plus, they have added Ed Helms to the cast as well.

I am very much enjoying the Office. My husband and I were talking about the American Office vs the British version- I think they did a great job in the American version of making the boss a little more likable- not so much that you don’t feel a little bit of glee seeing him get admonished, but enough that you’ll stick it out for longer. The British version pretty much had to end when it did, because by that time you hated the boss character and wanted to see him fired.
I know a lot of people that still are sticking to the “British version rules, American version sucks” mantra- that was certainly true of Coupling, but I think they’re improved on the formula for the American version of the office.

Here’s an interesting article about the various Office remakes (here, France, and Germany) I ran across a couple weeks ago:
How each country’s version of The Office reflects its national identity.

Thanks, that was a great article.
I want to dig up the German and French version now, if I can find them with subtitles.

A quick search of the Internet (*cough*BitTorrent*cough*) reveals that they can found, but neither seems to exist with English subtitles.
Also, a Quebec French version of The Office (La Job) debuted yesterday.

Thanks for the article link Swid. I agree - reading about the French and German versions makes me want to see them. I do enjoy how the US version frequently parodies office types of situations and characters that are encountered everyday in the cube farms of work.
Beyond the writing, what has surprised me more and more is how funny and entertaining some of the acting is. I’m seriously thinking on picking up Season 2 on DVD.

Well, I’ll just have to step up my French studies, won’t I?
