Spring Game

I’m not going to write up on the Spring Game because I think it’s pointless. I’ll only say that the Red won 35-7. Why 57k people would go see a practice is beyond me.  So since I couldn’t care less about the game, give me your thoughts.

What, you don’t think the fact that the Huskers won (and lost) their first game of 2006 is significant?

I agree with you that the Spring Game is “pointless” in the sense that it doesn’t tell us much more about the team than that they aren’t completely incompetent. But I still wish I could have gone. I just enjoy being around college football. It’s nice to be able to watch a sporting event (1) other than soccer and baseball and (2) which I’m not officiating.

I really describe myself as a Saturday Nebraska fan.  Meaning on Saturdays in August, I really care how the team is going to do.  The other 6 days out of the week, I could really care less.

The Spring Game is a perfect marketing scheme: get a few thousand people with nothing going on in their lives to think a particular game (a game in which the quarterback can not be hit) has any significance, or is even minimally enjoyable to watch.  Though the game is pointless, I’m not surprised Nebraskans get excited about it.  It’s not like there’s anything else going on here.

Ahh aren’t we a bunch of grumps.  For those of us die-hard college football fans, you never can get enough.  Indicative of this trend is the fact that Spring Games all around the country are growing in popularity...Oklahoma’s was televised, Texas had 40,000...etc.  Besides, what else is there for a sports fan to watch...the NBA....talk about pointless.

I’m as die-hard as it comes.  DURING the season.  It’s not football season.  Right now it’s baseball season.  We have an excellent baseball team right now that played it’s best series of the weekend.  And it get’s drowned out by a practice football game.

I’m glad that the spring game is over because now baseball can get all the press that it deserves.

Agree that it is baseball season, but it is only one day afterall, and it’s not as Spring Game is a new occurence.  Besides, I’m sure the Spring Game helped contribute to attendance at Haymarket park and may have exposed some out-state fans to the pleasures of Nebraska baseball.  Afterall, it is only a short walk from Memorial Stadium.  One can be a fan of Nebraska Baseball and Football simultaneously...it is not an either/or win/lose decision.

I know I know.  I guess I just don’t get the ferver of the spring FB season.

Hm. Well, not a football fan at all, so I guess I’m not the one to ask. I just hate how they have to lock down the buildings on campus during football games. I’ve had to resort to scaling walls to get in and do work.
