All good things…

Unfortunately for the womens basketball team the end probably came too soon.  This was a team that was better than the Sweet 16.  They probably got very unlucky to draw Kentucky as a #4 seed because this was the one type of team that was going to beat them.  The one who pushed back against Nebraska’s pressure.  Let’s get one thing straight Kentucky beat Nebraska. Nebraska did not beat Nebraska.  Unfortunately it ends a wonderful season that Nebraska basketball fans have never seen around here.

Now we’re onto spring football, baseball and softball.

Mr. Wilson says Perhaps the most unfortunate thing March 30, 2010 at 7:37am

Perhaps the most unfortunate thing about their loss is that it substantially deflates the momentum that had been building. I don’t think that anything short of a close loss to UCONN in the finals (or better yet, a win!) would have really got people on board. As it happens, these Huskers will be forgotten by most of Husker Nation within a week.

On the plus side, the Huskers brought in a ton of new season ticket holders. IIRC they almost doubled their numbers. That’s a huge victory in itself, I suppose. At the very least the Athletic Department’s budget office can breathe a little easier.

Totally agree Mr. Wilson. But along the same lines its sad that there wasn’t more people interested in the team. Sure the crowds came out, but where was the media coverage?  I remember saying in my last blog about the attention that the womens team was getting. It really didn’t start until the women started drawing over 10k. Before that it was “oh they won again.”

But you’re right, the attention is gone.  I hope people come out and support the team next year, but I also hope the team can follow up on this great season.
